Sala Baganza will be one of the first things Martina will show you on the map. Long honey hair and blue eyes, full of questions and stories to tell. She graduated in psychology, has always had a foot in the fashion world and a new book to devour. She has just returned from London where she worked as a booker for Viva Models, one of the world's most famous modeling agencies.

In the short breaks you take in your monologues you always find the time to name Sala Baganza. What binds you so strongly to your land?
It makes me smile that this attachment of mine seems so strange.
Sala Baganza is my home, I was born and raised there, I know every street, every corner. It 'a country in reality like many others, I could tell you that you eat very well, there are enchanting woods and unique landscapes in Emilia, but these are all things that you already know.
There is a sentence by Cesare Pavese that sums up my relationship with Sala Baganza very well and is worth more than any explanation:
"A country means not being alone, knowing that in the people, in the plants, in the earth there is something of yours, that even when you are not there it is still waiting for you".

What led you to study psychology?
The reasons were mainly two:

1. great indecision, I wanted to do philosophy, then medicine
2. an interest in the human brain, neurotransmitters, perceptual mechanisms, the continuous reciprocal influence between our biology/physiology and the experiences of our life.

You are passionate about reading and writing. You made me discover the interview Frank, Il bambino d'amore si vive by Silvano Agosti. What do you find special in this interview?
I find it authentic, this makes it special.
He speaks of love in a genuine, healthy way, as if he was talking about a beautiful game or a good pasta dish. Without great superstructures, Frank clearly explains that love is good and is extremely beautiful.

What was the last book you read and loved?
The things we have in common by Zygmunt Bauman.

You worked at Sert in Parma, in Paris for fashion houses, in Milan for showrooms, in London as a booker and now you're back in Milan. What is the spring that drives you to change the state of things in which you are and leave?
Each of my changes has been moved by different reasons, like many other my peers I have often had to adapt and reinvent by necessity. Undoubtedly the spring that often brought me and leads me to change is a continuous need for new stimuli and, I admit, even a small dose of impatience.

What it means to be a booker, tell me about your work.
The booker is a mediator between customers and models. The task of the booker is to manage in the best way the career of the model, understand what is the right job for her at a certain time and help her along this path. Another goal of the booker is to suggest to the customer which model is closer to his taste and his image.
It is also a very creative profession, we must have the eye to understand how to best enhance a model based on his personality.
It's a profession that allows me to be in contact with many fashion figures, photographers, stylists, casting directors, designers, and also makes me feel a little psychologist: the relationship that is established with a model is certainly unique in its kind, you have to be very present, authoritative, but at the same time caring, in fact, you represent a reference point in his/her path on a professional and human level.

What role does love play in your choices?
Unfortunately, or fortunately, a crucial role.

What would you write on a billboard in the middle of your city?

Hi Mum, I love you.

• A friend of yours to interview? What should I ask? Kata, one of my best friends, an Icelandic shoe designer. Her culture leads her to be very cold and detached, but at the same time, she is one of the sweetest and most empathetic people I know. Passionate about fishing in the river and hunting the ducks, she lives between New York, London, and Reykjavik. Ask her how she is so strong and eclectic, so creative and dreamer while keeping herself intact and with her feet firmly planted on the ground.

Nelle brevi pause che prendi nei tuoi monologhi trovi sempre il tempo per nominare Sala Baganza. Cosa ti lega così fortemente alla tua terra?
Mi fa sorridere che questo mio attaccamento sembri così strano.
Sala Baganza è casa mia, sono nata e cresciuta li, conosco ogni strada, ogni angolo. E' un paese in realtà come tanti altri, potrei dirti che si mangia benissimo, che ci sono dei boschi incantevoli e panorami unici in Emilia, ma sono tutte cose che si sanno già.
C'è una frase di Cesare Pavese che riassume molto bene il mio legame con Sala Baganza e vale più di ogni spiegazione:
"Un paese vuol dire non essere soli, sapere che nella gente, nelle piante, nella terra c'è qualcosa di tuo, che anche quando non ci sei resta ad aspettarti".

Cosa ti ha portata a studiare psicologia?
I motivi sono stati principalmente due:

1. una grande indecisione, volevo fare filosofia, poi medicina
2. un interesse per il cervello umano, i neurotrasmettitori, i meccanismi percettivi, il continuo influenzarsi reciproco tra la nostra biologia/fisiologia e le esperienze della nostra vita.

Sei appassionata di lettura e scrittura. Mi hai fatto scoprire l'intervista Frank, Il bambino d'amore si vive by Silvano Agosti. Cosa trovi di speciale in questa intervista?

Trovo sia autentica, questo la rende speciale.
Parla d'amore in modo genuino, sano, come se si stesse parlando di un bellissimo gioco o di un buon piatto di pasta. Senza grandi sovrastrutture Frank spiega chiaramente che l'amore fa bene ed è una cosa estremamente bella.

Quale è stato l'ultimo libro che hai letto ed amato?
Le cose che abbiamo in comune di Zygmunt Bauman.

A Parma hai lavorato al Sert, a Parigi per maison di moda, a Milano in showroom, a Londra come booker ed ora sei tornata a Milano. Quale è la molla che ti spinge a cambiare lo stato delle cose nel quale ti trovi e ripartire?
Ogni mio cambiamento è stato mosso da motivi diversi, come tanti altri miei coetanei mi sono dovuta spesso adattare e reinventare per necessità. Senz'altro la molla che spesso mi ha portato e mi porta a cambiare è una continua necessità di nuovi stimoli e, ammetto, anche una piccola dose di insofferenza.

Cosa significa essere una booker, raccontami il tuo lavoro.
Il booker è un mediatore tra i clienti e le modelle. Il compito del booker è quello di gestire nel migliore dei modi la carriera della modella, capire quale sia il lavoro adatto a lei in un determinato momento e aiutarla in questo percorso. Un altro obiettivo del booker è quello di suggerire al cliente quale modella più si avvicini al suo gusto e alla sua immagine.
Si tratta di una professione anche molto creativa, bisogna avere l'occhio per capire come esaltare al meglio una modella in base alla sua personalità.
E' una professione che mi consente di stare a contatto con tantissime figure della moda, fotografi, stylist, casting director, designer, e inoltre mi fa sentire ancora un po' psicologa: la relazione che si instaura con una modella è senz'altro unica nel suo genere, devi essere molto presente, autorevole, ma allo stesso tempo accudente, di fatto rappresenti un punto di riferimento nel suo percorso a livello professionale e umano.

Che ruolo gioca l'amore nelle tue scelte?
Purtroppo (o per fortuna) un ruolo cruciale. Sto chiaramente sviando la risposta.
